(09/11/17)  Week Two theme of National Preparedness Month is “Plan to Help Your Neighbors and Community”.    Where can we start – in a community where the median age is 55.6 years old it is likely that you have a senior citizen living alone on your block.  Reach out to that neighbor and discuss planning with him or her.   You may want offer to assist him or her in the event of a storm.  Assistance could be helping the neighbor move their car to high ground and bring them back to their house or help move their trash cans, lawn furniture to a safe location.   If you are going to the store offer to pick up something for them or take the neighbor with you.   During the storm keep in contact with your neighbor.   Next plan to help your Community – the first way to help your community  is simple – PLAN – if you plan and can take care of yourself you will not need the limited emergency services to help you.   The second way to help your Community is to heed the warnings and follow the instructions given to the public.  Lastly – an effective way to help your community is to VOLUNTEER – become a Volunteer Firefighter or a CERT team member.  You will be provided with the necessary training.   There are many volunteer positions that are needed during a prolong event  from outside storm duty, t0 radio operators, shelter workers, and clerical workers.   Remember before you can help your neighbors or community you must help yourself by creating your personal plan.

Unrelated note – those that periodically check the North Wildwood Weather Station take note that the link on the left hand side of this page (ready.northwildwood.com) has changed and it now opens up to a different display.  The same information is displayed and is self refreshing every 30 seconds.    If you bookmarked the page and went to it directly the old link no longer works and you will have to bookmark the new page.
